2023 – ongoing

In the easternmost part of Austria, the effects of low precipitation and hot years are becoming increasingly apparent. The small saltwater lakes in the already dry Seewinkel region suffer from a low groundwater level, which is exacerbated by climate-related extremes and intensively irrigated crops in agriculture. In 2022, Lake Neusiedl, Austria's largest lake, recorded its lowest water level since records began. The steppe lake is threatened to completely dry up for the first time in 150 years. An artificial inflow is proposed to stabilize the lake's water level. However, potential consequences for the sensitive ecosystem would be unpredictable. "Hoda eh wieda Wossa" marks the beginning of a long-term examination of one of Austria's driest regions for Florian Sulzer. Apart from dystopian future scenarios and simplified human solutions, he aims for a calm perspective on an emotionally charged debate.
